What we observe when we are children goes a long way to impact us. I was in grade eleven when my dad had a heart attack. As I got involved with his medical care, I realized he was a type 2 diabetic. He made drastic changes to his diet to prevent his condition from worsening.
I asked our family physician at the time if I should be eating less sugar and sweets and his response was…”Once you get diabetes you won’t be able to, so enjoy yourself till such time.” So I did…I indulged my sweet tooth and eventually in the new year of 2015 I was warned that I was pre-diabetic.
My physician actually recommended that I get on an aggressive insulin protocol for pre-diabetics for controlling my rising blood glucose. I was aghast and decided to try to control my T2D without medication. I am happy to say that I am no longer pre-diabetic. I have managed to reverse my diabetes from an A1C of 6.4 to an A1C of 5.6.
I want to share my experience in the hopes that I may help point those struggling with metabolic health issues onto a path of sustained health without drugs/medication.
